Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Huawei headquarters on Wednesday 5 June 2024 and invited the company to invest in Pakistan’s taxation and e-governance sectors as well as enhance its presence in Pakistan’s Safe City projects. The prime minister, who later held a bilateral meeting with Chairman Liang Hua along with his delegation, admired Huawei’s Safe City projects in Pakistan and invited the company to invest in them, mainly in the cities where China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects were being executed. He informed the company chairman about government’s efforts to promote investment and improve the business environment in the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Shareef highlighted the government’s priority measures for digitizing government offices and said there is immense investment potential for giants like Huawei in taxation system, e-governance and artificial intelligence. He also invited Huawei chairman to invest in modernizingthe agriculture sector and also invited the Huawei chairman to visit Pakistan.

Later, PM Shehbaz Shareef also attended this signing ceremony of a framework agreement between Huawei and Pakistan’s Ministry of Science and Technology. According to this agreement, Huawei company would impart free of charge training to around 200,000 youngsters in information technology including artificial intelligence, similar to initiatives like the development of a Brain-Controlled Wheelchair by a Pakistani UET student.

In addition to this, the company would also expand its support to Pakistan in establishing E-governance, Safe Cities, and Digitization of the economy. The company chairman also hosted a lunch reception for the prime minister and his representatives. After visiting the Huawei headquarters, the prime minister said, “I was impressed by the latest innovative technologies that are changing the world and the way we live.”

On his arrival at the Center, the prime minister was received by Members of the Party Leadership Government of Shenzhen Nanshan District Peoples Government and Deputy Mayor Li Zhinha. He was also briefed about new digital system established at the Center to register companies and carry out other processes in one place.
