Description:

Thielemann & SKD's Bruckner Cycle Linz Symphony No. 1Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden present the Bruckner Symphony Cycle, a project that has been underway since Thielemann became principal conductor in 2012. The project has been ongoing since Thielemann's appointment as chief conductor in 2012, and so far, No. 7 (recorded in 2012/ OpusArte), No. 8 (2012), No. 5 (2013), No. 9 (2015), No. 4 (2015), No. 6 (2015), and No. 3 (2016) have been released on DVD & BD. This release features Symphony No. 1, premiered in May 1868 under Bruckner's own baton. Bruckner was the organist at Linz Cathedral at the time, and the premiere took place there. In October 1868, Bruckner moved to Vienna to work on a series of new symphonies, but he was also revising his old works at the same time. The first version was revised in 1877, 1884, and 1890, and this became the "Wiener Draft".Compared to the other symphonies, Bruckner's early style, which Bruckner himself described as "a cheeky little girl," is preferred in this First Symphony, and the , which was written before the revision, has been performed relatively more often. Thielemann's detailed descriptive writing and Staatskapelle Dresden's profound sound were retained in this performance, which celebrated the liveliness of Bruckner's early works. The Staatskapelle Dresden has been dominated by Wagner and Richard Strauss, but since the first performance under Adolf Hagen in 1895, the Bruckner Cycle has been performed by Böhm, Kilebert, Jochum, Sinopoli, Haitink, and others, and this Bruckner cycle is no exception. This Bruckner Cycle is another example of the mutual success that Thielemann and the orchestra have achieved together. King International
