Lahore General Hospital
Lahore General Hospital is a public teaching hospital in Lahore, Pakistan, situated on Ferozepur Road. It is associated with Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Lahore. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan has accredited Lahore General Hospital. A piece of land measuring one square and seven acres, approximately 256 kanals, on Ferozepur Road, Lahore, about 17 kilometers from Lahore, was initially earmarked for a beggar house. In 1998, Lahore General Hospital gained autonomy, with Dr. Sabiha Khurshid Ahmad appointed as its first chief executive. New operation theaters for urology and orthopedics were initiated, and improvements were made to the Surgical Outpatient Department (SOT), including a new recovery room and laundry plant. In 2017, it made history as the first public hospital to do laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, a significant medical achievement.
Founded
The foundation for the construction was laid by Begum Nahid Sikandar Mirza, the wife of then Governor-General of Pakistan Iskander Mirza, on 27 February 1958. The first phase of the building was completed by late 1958 and an opening ceremony was held on 30 September 1958 by Nahid Mirza.
